Welcome to Phi Phi Island
Where legendary parties meet pristine beaches and epic adventures never end
Phi Phi Island isn't just a destination—it's a vibe. A feeling. A backpacker rite of passage.
Picture this: crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic limestone cliffs shooting out of the ocean, white sand beaches that look photoshopped (but aren't), and a party scene that's become legendary among travelers worldwide. This tiny island in the Andaman Sea has everything: adventure by day, epic parties by night, and enough natural beauty to make your Instagram followers insanely jealous.
Whether you're here to dive with sharks, dance until sunrise, kayak through hidden lagoons, or just post up on a beach with a bucket and watch the sunset—Phi Phi delivers. Every. Single. Time.
The Party Scene: Legendary Status
Fire Shows & Beach Parties
Every night on Phi Phi is a party. Tonsai Beach transforms into one massive beach club with fire dancers spinning blazing ropes, DJs pumping music, and backpackers from every corner of the planet dancing in the sand. The fire shows are insane—professional performers doing tricks that'll make you wonder how they still have eyebrows.
Pro tip: Bucket drinks are cheap, potent, and a Phi Phi tradition. Just pace yourself—tomorrow's snorkeling tour won't be as fun with a killer hangover.
The Reggae & Pool Parties
Want something different? Hit up the Reggae Bar—a pool party venue where people jump off towers into a pool while surrounded by cheering crowds. It's chaotic, it's wild, and it's exactly what you'd expect from Phi Phi. Multiple bars blast different music vibes, so you can hop around until you find your scene.
Meet the World Here
The best part? Everyone's in the same headspace—here to have an epic time, meet cool people, and make memories that'll last forever. You'll make friends from Sweden, Australia, Brazil, and everywhere in between. That's the Phi Phi magic.
Epic Tours & Adventures
Island Hopping Tours
The classic Phi Phi experience. Longtail boats whisk you around to Maya Bay (yes, THAT beach from The Beach movie), Monkey Beach (literal monkeys everywhere), Bamboo Island, and hidden lagoons. Snorkeling gear included. Prepare for water so clear you can see fish from the boat.
Price: Usually 400-800 baht depending on the tour. Book through your hostel or agencies on the main street.
Sunset Cruises
Watch the sun melt into the Andaman Sea from a boat with a drink in hand. These tours usually include snorkeling stops, swimming in bioluminescent plankton (nature's glow sticks), and vibes that are absolutely unmatched. Some tours have DJs onboard. Yes, really.
Price: 800-1,200 baht. Worth every penny for the gram alone.
Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
The underwater world around Phi Phi is next level. Coral reefs, tropical fish, reef sharks (friendly ones), and if you're lucky, sea turtles. Whether you're getting your PADI certification or just snorkeling, the visibility is incredible. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are legendary dive sites nearby.
Snorkeling: 400-600 baht | Discover Scuba: 3,000-3,500 baht | Full PADI: 12,000-15,000 baht
Kayaking & Viewpoint Hikes
Want to work off those bucket hangovers? Rent a kayak and explore the coastline at your own pace, or hike up to the Phi Phi Viewpoint for jaw-dropping panoramic views. The hike is steep but short (20-30 mins), and the sunset from up there is absolutely worth the sweat. There are three viewpoints— go all the way to the third one if you can.
Kayak rental: 200-300 baht/hour | Viewpoint: 30 baht entry fee
Beach Hopping
Not into tours? Just grab a longtail boat taxi and beach hop at your own pace. Long Beach is quieter and perfect for chilling, Loh Dalum Bay is party central, and if you walk to the far ends of the island, you'll find nearly empty beaches. Paradise mode: activated.
Insider Tips for Phi Phi
Best Time to Visit
November to April is peak season—best weather, calmest seas. May to October can be rainy but way cheaper and less crowded. Pick your vibe.
Getting There
Ferries from Phuket (2 hours) or Krabi (1.5 hours). Check out our Transport page for the best ferry options.
Money Matters
ATMs are everywhere but charge fees (150-220 baht per withdrawal). Bring cash from the mainland if you can. Most places take card now though.
Eco-Friendly Travel
Skip single-use plastics, respect the coral (don't touch!), and use reef-safe sunscreen. Phi Phi is recovering from over-tourism—let's keep it beautiful.
